Art enthusiasts and culture lovers across the Marina Alta are invited to an inspiring evening of fine art, community spirit, and local creativity as The Arts Society Marina Alta hosts its upcoming Members’ Art Exhibition and Opening Reception. Taking place on Friday, October 2, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, this close community event will take place in the historic heart of Javea’s Old Town, inside the Soler Blasco Museum.

Celebrating local talent and Sorolla’s Mediterranean legacy

The exhibition will celebrate both the rich creative talents of the society’s own members and the enduring artistic legacy of Spanish master painter Joaquín Sorolla. World-renowned for his extraordinary ability to capture the vivid sun, dramatic sea cliffs, and luminous Mediterranean light, Sorolla famously developed a deep personal connection with Javea, finding inspiration along its idyllic coastline. This special showcase honours that work, displaying a diverse collection of original pieces produced by local society members whose paintings and creations reflect the unique atmosphere, natural beauty, and distinctive charm of the Costa Blanca.

A night of art and community connection

The evening will provide a fantastic opportunity for long-term residents, international expatriates, and seasonal visitors to meet the featured artists in person, discuss their creative techniques, and appreciate the impressive talent thriving within the Marina Alta area.

Event details and how to register

Both society members and members of the general public are warmly welcomed to join the opening celebration. Attendance is open to all, though guests are requested to register their spot in advance by visiting the official events page at www.artsocma.org. For further details about the exhibition, event scheduling, or general inquiries regarding society membership, interested visitors can contact Lanie Geldert directly via email at ch@artsocma.org. Looking for a unique, wholesome family outing on the Costa Blanca? Animal lovers in and around El Campello are invited to a special charity gathering that combines movie magic with cuddles from adorable rescue puppies. Local non-profit animal rescue association Las Reinas del Biberón has organised the upcoming Cine Familiar con Palomitas, Bebidas y Cachorros (Family Movie Night With Popcorn, Drinks, and Puppies). The event will offer a cosy evening for film fans and dog lovers alike.

Movies, snacks and adoptable rescue puppies

Taking place on Friday, September 26, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at La Casa de Las Reinas, located at Calle Fra Joan Tensa, 29 in El Campello, the night will be a relaxed, welcoming environment where guests can sit back, enjoy a family-friendly film, and snack on fresh popcorn accompanied by refreshing drinks. But what will make this cinema screening truly extraordinary, is the presence of adorable shelter puppies roaming around, eager to socialise, play, and receive affection from attendees.

Las Reinas del Biberón, supporting animal welfare on the Costa Blanca

The gathering has a crucial charitable heart. Las Reinas del Biberón works tirelessly across the Costa Blanca area to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome vulnerable puppies and young animals. Events like this movie evening give these rescued pups valuable opportunities to socialise and connect with potential adoptive families. The shelter’s various events, which are hosted weekly, also help to spread awareness about the shelter. Every ticket purchased contributes directly to the association’s ongoing costs, including veterinary care, specialised milk formula, medical treatments, and daily nutrition.

Ticket pricing and booking details: How to reserve your spot for popcorn and puppies

Admission is set at €10 per person, which covers full entry to the movie screening, popcorn, beverages, and plenty of puppy interaction. Space is limited to 50 participants, and because of this limited capacity, advance booking is required. Tickets can be reserved online via the official website at Las Reinas del Biberón, and prospective attendees with questions can contact the organizers directly via WhatsApp at T. 644 14 69 49.

Animal lovers and film buffs near El Campello on the Costa Blanca should not hesitate to reserve their tickets and enjoy a fun night of popcorn and puppies at La Casa de las Reinas.

Those on the Costa Blanca looking for an engaging evening out that offers something a little different from the usual tapas and sunset drinks are in luck. The Costa Blanca Astronomical Society is offering a fantastic opportunity to explore the cosmos without leaving Denia: on Friday, October 30, the society will be hosting a free public lecture titled “Defending the Earth” at Denia’s Casa de Cultura, featuring guest speaker Professor Alan Fitzsimmons.

A world-class astrophysicist comes to Denia for a special talk about saving the Earth

For the local community, the event will bring top-tier scientific expertise right to their doorstep in English. Professor Fitzsimmons, a retired Professor of Astrophysics from Queen’s University Belfast, spent his academic career studying comets and asteroids using world-leading observatories. Having served within QUB’s Astrophysics Research Centre and Solar System Group, he specialises in measuring the physical characteristics and makeup of spatial bodies, and now enjoying his retirement, he is returning to the Costa Blanca to break down the captivating, real-world science of planetary defense.  While giant asteroid strikes are a classic staple of Hollywood sci-fi blockbusters, the actual mission to protect our planet is far more intriguing…and very real.

The real-world science of planetary defence

During this enlightening talk, Professor Fitzsimmons will explain how astronomers discover and track thousands of new Near-Earth Objects every year, as well as how automated systems assess potential threats. He will also share updates on groundbreaking joint missions by NASA and the European Space Agency to test asteroid deflection, alongside a preview of what powerful new observatories will reveal over the coming decade.

How to attend the free lecture in Denia

The talk will be a great way to enjoy a thought-provoking evening and connect with fellow residents who share an interest in astronomy on the Costa Blanca. The presentation takes place at 7:00pm in the Sala de Actos at Casa de Cultura, Denia. Admission is completely free, the talk will be delivered in English, and there is no need to reserve seating in advance; visitors can just pop along on the night. For more details or general inquiries about the society, call T. 671 152 686 or email amsecretaryCBAS@gmail.com

This October, the Costa Blanca town of Denia will be smitten with the stars. Everyone is welcome to attend the fascinating “Defending the Earth” talk, and local residents with even the slightest interest in astronomy should not miss out.
