Residents in Camposol are being encouraged to get involved in their local community by joining Green Fingers, a friendly gardening group looking for new volunteers to help maintain Sector C. The group meets every Wednesday morning from 9:00am to 11:00am at the collection point, where members spend two hours carrying out light gardening and maintenance work to keep the area looking tidy and welcoming.

Welcoming new volunteers with green thumbs in Camposol: Gathering and gardening on the Costa Calida

No previous gardening experience is required, and newcomers are welcome to turn up and get involved without booking in advance. Green Fingers is about more than simply keeping the neighbourhood looking attractive; the group also provides residents with an opportunity to meet others, socialise, enjoy some fresh air and contribute to the community in a fun way.

What is Green Fingers? Charity volunteers with a passion for plants

Its volunteers regularly tackle jobs including weeding, sweeping, trimming trees and bushes, and watering plants around Sector C. The team has also recently been involved in preparing the Remembrance Garden alongside the Royal British Legion, helping tidy the area around the memorial ahead of Remembrance commemorations. Money collected during the group’s activities is being donated to the Murcia branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2026.

How to participate in this eco-friendly initiative

Organisers say the Wednesday gatherings are as much about socialising as gardening, with breakfast provided for volunteers. Anyone interested in joining is asked to wear suitable clothing and bring some water. Those interested in participating need only show up at the collection point in the morning.

Whether someone can spare two hours every week or simply wants to lend a hand occasionally, every additional volunteer can help make a major difference. With new faces always welcome, the group hopes more residents will come forward to help keep Camposol looking its best while enjoying a sociable start to the day.

Cartagena is preparing for a new celebration of contemporary art, live music and food, with the first edition of the Luzzy Market taking place on Sunday, November 7. The free event will transform the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Centre into a meeting place for artists, creatives and visitors looking to discover something different, share their talents and bring culture and art to the major Costa Calida hub city.

20 creative projects showcase contemporary art

Organised by Cartagena City Council’s Department of Culture, the market will bring together 20 artistic projects under the slogan ‘Art to Take Home‘. Visitors can browse a variety of original creations, including paintings, illustrations, photography, independent fashion, ceramics, contemporary jewellery and designer pieces.

When to see the vibrant first edition of the Luzzy Market

Running from 10:00am to 2:30pm and again from 4:30pm to 8:00pm, the market will give visitors the opportunity to meet talented local creators, discover unique pieces and purchase original artwork directly from the artists, supporting their work. The participating projects were selected according to artistic quality, originality and authorship, making these outstanding contemporary art pieces more accessible to the public while encouraging collecting and giving independent artists greater visibility.

Free jazz concerts bring music to the gardens

Music will also play a central role, with two free concerts scheduled in the cultural centre’s garden as part of the 45th Cartagena Jazz Festival. The programme begins at 11:30am with Mood Swing, a quartet performing swing, boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues. They will be followed by Gata Brass Band, an Almeria-based group combining funk and New Orleans brass band sounds with Latin, rock and electronic influences.

Food trucks add flavour to the festivities and open mic invites local performers to participate

Food trucks La Bodeguilla de Tete and La Callejera will also be serving food and drinks throughout the day. The afternoon programme will include an open mic organised in collaboration with Colectivo Moltissim, running from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Music, poetry, comedy and other artistic performances will be welcome, with interested participants able to register through moltissim.es.

With free admission and activities throughout the day, the inaugural Luzzy Market offers residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy Cartagena’s creative scene while supporting independent artists.

HELP Murcia Mar Menor has donated €4,000 to Aidemar in San Javier to support the organisation’s work helping people with disabilities develop new skills, gain independence and prepare for employment. Representatives from HELP visited Aidemar’s centre, where they were welcomed by the organisation’s president, Paco Garcia, and members of its management team. The visit also included a tour of Aidemar’s brand-new training centre, where the donation was presented.

New training centre supports independence and employment in the Mar Menor area

The new facility provides a dedicated space where students can learn skills and receive guidance as they work towards independence and potential employment opportunities. The bright and spacious centre includes offices, classrooms and a kitchen, providing different environments for learning and developing everyday skills.

HELP Murcia Mar Menor representatives said they hoped their €4,000 contribution would help Aidemar continue developing the centre and expanding the support available to its students. The visit also gave the charity an opportunity to see how its contribution could make a difference to people in the local community first-hand.

Handmade gifts celebrate partnership between local charities

Additionally, during the visit, HELP representatives were presented with two handmade ceramic gifts created by Aidemar’s team in San Pedro del Pinatar. The charity praised the work and talent behind the pieces and said it hoped to arrange another visit to see the team at work.

San Javier café welcomes HELP fundraising collection tin: Charities collaborate for the community

This is not the only time the charities have networked: Aidemar has recently opened a café in San Javier and agreed to host one of HELP’s collection tins. The arrangement will provide another opportunity for people to contribute to the charity’s fundraising activities while visiting the café.

Aidemar continues supporting 1,000 people and their families

Aidemar has been supporting people with disabilities and their families for 44 years. The organisation currently provides assistance to around 1,000 people and their relatives on the Costa Calida, helping them access opportunities, develop their abilities and improve their quality of life. HELP Murcia Mar Menor also helps people in need across the Region of Murcia, primarily by providing equipment for mobility including walking sticks and mobility scooters.

“We’re proud to support an organisation doing such important work in our local community,” stated HELP Murcia Mar Menor in a post about the donation. “A huge thank you to Aidemar for the warm welcome, the lovely gifts and the opportunity to see first-hand the difference they are making.”

This generous donation represents another example of local organisations working together to improve opportunities and provide practical support for people and families across the Mar Menor area.
