A charity running event will take place at Terra Mítica theme park in Benidorm on November 8, offering local residents and visitors the chance to take part in a sporting challenge, all while supporting a good cause close to the community’s heart. The Carrera Solidaria Terra Mítica Park is a 5-kilometre race in the Costa Blanca resort, and unlike competitive races focused on speed and finishing positions, this event is non-competitive, putting the emphasis on participation, solidarity and the experience of taking part with the community.

A charity race with a community focus

Terra Mítica, a theme park, is one of Benidorm’s best-known attractions, which takes visitors on a journey through ancient Mediterranean civilisations, including Egypt, Greece and Rome. It is located in the Partida del Moralet area of Benidorm, near the road connecting the resort with Finestrat.

Its distinctive setting offers an alternative to the traditional road race, bringing a sporting event to the vibrant and decorated grounds of the theme park.

A five-kilometre challenge for runners of all skills

The 5K distance makes the event an option for runners looking for a shorter challenge, including those who want to enjoy a community sporting occasion without committing to a longer race. Charity runs like these can also provide an opportunity for participants to support a cause through sport, while bringing together people with different levels of running experience.

Supporting local charities, including Cáritas

The funds raised from the event will go towards local charity organisations, including Cáritas, an organisation dedicated to combat poverty, social exclusion, intolerance and discrimination in the community.

Running through Benidorm’s famous theme park

The venue regularly draws families and visitors seeking entertainment beyond Benidorm’s beaches and nightlife, making it a recognisable setting for an event that combines leisure and sport. Those interested in participating can consult the event listings on various websites, including Dale Deporte, Buscametas or WODira.

With its five-kilometre format and non-competitive nature, the event offers a fun opportunity for running enthusiasts, no matter their skill level, to enjoy a different sporting experience in Benidorm while supporting a charitable cause.

Benidorm is preparing to celebrate its annual patron saint festivities from November 6 to 11, with a week of traditional ceremonies, live music, spectacular fireworks and street celebrations expected to bring the major Costa Blanca city to life. The Festes Majors Patronals honour the Virgin of Suffrage and Saint James the Apostle, bringing together residents and visitors for one of Benidorm’s most important annual celebrations.

Benidorm prepares for a week of celebrations

The festivities will begin building up on Friday, November 6, with the inauguration of the decorative lights, the opening of the traditional fairground and the arrival of local festive groups, known as peñas. The official celebrations, however, are set to begin on Saturday, November 7, with church bells, a parade of musical bands and the traditional re-enactment of the discovery of Benidorm’s patron saint at Poniente Beach.

Religious traditions and spectacular fireworks

A procession and flower offering will follow, alongside the official opening speech. The evening programme includes live music, with performances by Manu Núñez and the orchestra La Flama, followed by a correfocs street spectacle featuring fire-running performers. Sunday, November 8, will honour the Virgin of Suffrage, while Monday, November 9, will celebrate Saint James the Apostle. Religious ceremonies and processions will be accompanied by fireworks and musical performances.

Concerts, colourful parades and family entertainment

Music will be a major highlight throughout the festivities, with concerts and orchestral performances taking place at venues across the city. Among the scheduled performers are Funambulista and Danny Romero.

One of the most anticipated events is the Desfile del Humor, a hilarious parade featuring colourful costumes and satirical performances. The celebrations will also include children’s activities and traditional events organised by local festive associations.

On Tuesday, November 10, a night-time fireworks display will add to the celebrations, while Wednesday, November 11, will bring the festivities to a close with the Festa de les Festes, the grand parade of floats and a final fireworks display.

A celebration of Benidorm’s local heritage and culture

The patron saint festivities offer residents and visitors to the major Costa Blanca hub city an opportunity to experience a different side of Benidorm beyond its beaches and nightlife. Combining religious heritage, deep-rotted traditions and contemporary entertainment, this annual event remains a long-awaited and major fixture in the city’s autumn calendar.

Benidorm launches seabed clean-up to protect its Mediterranean coastline

Around 15 volunteers have joined forces in Benidorm to remove rubbish from the seabed, as the Costa Blanca resort steps up efforts to protect its marine environment.

The two-day initiative, organised by Benidorm City Council’s Environment Department, focused on underwater areas around Rincón de Loix and the town’s port, with local nautical and diving organisations lending their support.

The campaign aimed to remove waste from the bay and help preserve the coastal waters that attract residents, tourists and marine wildlife throughout the year.

Volunteers target underwater rubbish

The first clean-up took place on Saturday, October 18, when volunteers headed into the waters around Rincón de Loix and the port to collect rubbish from the seabed.

A second session was scheduled for Sunday, October 19, concentrating on the waters surrounding the port to continue the work.

Around 15 volunteers took part in the initiative, helping to tackle underwater waste in areas that are difficult to access without specialist diving equipment.

Removing rubbish from the seabed is an important part of protecting marine ecosystems. Discarded items can pose a danger to marine animals, while waste accumulating underwater can damage habitats and affect the condition of coastal waters.

The clean-up also highlighted the contribution that local volunteers and specialist organisations can make to environmental protection through practical action.

Local organisations join forces

Several organisations collaborated with the council to deliver the campaign, including the Club Náutico, Benidorm Marine, Benidorm Diving Sones dive centre and the Buceo por el Medio Ambiente association.

Their involvement brought together members of the local nautical and diving community, whose knowledge of the sea and underwater environments can help support conservation efforts.

The initiative forms part of the town’s wider commitment to looking after its marine surroundings, with the Mediterranean coastline playing a central role in Benidorm’s appeal as a holiday destination.

The resort is well known for its beaches and watersports, making the condition of its coastal waters important for both the local environment and the tourism industry.

Protecting the Costa Blanca coastline

Marine litter remains a challenge for coastal communities, with rubbish entering the sea from a variety of sources and potentially remaining underwater long after it has been discarded.

Organised seabed clean-ups offer a practical way to remove some of this waste while bringing attention to the importance of preventing litter from reaching the water in the first place.

By working alongside local diving groups and nautical organisations, Benidorm City Council has encouraged community participation in protecting the bay.

The weekend operation focused on clearing underwater rubbish, helping to safeguard the Mediterranean environment for marine life and the people who live in and visit the Costa Blanca resort.
