on

Dig deep into your general knowledge and grab your sharpest quizzing partners, because a night of laughter, nostalgia and friendly rivalry is coming to Cabopino. Gather your friends and neighbours, and know that every euro made goes straight back into the older English-speaking community on the coast.

A night of music, film, TV and general knowledge

Age Care Costa del Sol is hosting its quiz on Tuesday, November 10 at 7.30pm. Cabo Pizza, in the Centro Comercial Cabopino is the venue for this night of fundraising fun.

The quiz runs over six rounds and allows for teams of up to four, so pull together your best mix of music buffs, film fans and TV addicts. A raffle will run too, and food and drink will be available throughout the evening, making it an easy, relaxed night out and no washing up needed.

Neighbours helping neighbours

All profits from the night go towards Age Care’s work with older English-speaking residents. The charity does wonderful work providing friendship, support and social activities that help older people live full and active lives.

Volunteers make it all possible. They arrange weekly social meetings, lifts to hospital and doctor appointments, access to translators and help dealing with local authorities. The charity has spent close to two decades helping older people in Spain.

Books, jigsaws and board games wanted

Age Care’s bookshop is running low on stock after a busy summer, so the team is asking the community for a helping hand. Good quality books, jigsaws and board games in good condition would be gratefully received. Donations can be dropped at the Age Care shop in El Zoco, Calahonda, which is open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm.

You can also say hello this Saturday, October 31, when the team will be outside the shop from 10am to 3pm for a pop-up market. Shoppers can expect racks of coats, jackets, jumpers and golf wear. Read the full story in Euro Weekly News.

How to book

Entry costs €5 per person. Booking is advisable, so reserve early by contacting Cabo Pizza through its Facebook page, or by phone or WhatsApp on +34 677 476 144.

Evenings like this bring the community together, and that means a great deal in an area where people look out for one another. Round up your team, brush up on your trivia, and head to Cabopino on November 10.

Bargain hunters and charity shop lovers around Calahonda have a great reason to visit El Zoco this weekend. Age Care Costa del Sol is stepping outside its usual shop doors to hold its very first outdoor pop-up market. Volunteers have recently cleared out the back storerooms and found boxes of fantastic items that simply would not fit onto the regular display shelves inside

Storeroom clear out yields exceptional wardrobe finds

Volunteers have spent much time going through physical donations, unearthing brilliant stock that deserves a proper viewing. Shoppers attending the Saturday event will find racks packed with practical items, including sturdy coats, tailored jackets, warm jumpers, and specialised golf wear suited for local courses. Parents can browse delightful children’s clothing options priced to clear quickly. Organisers designed this morning-to-afternoon gathering to accommodate everyone looking for wardrobe refreshments without breaking household budgets. Who knows what you might find, with Christmas creeping closer you may find something suitable for a different gift or a stocking filler? Or something that may be perfect to finish off your outfit for Halloween?

Community spirit and charity support in El Zoco

Age Care relies entirely on shop proceeds to fund vital welfare assistance and support networks for elderly expats across Mijas Costa and surrounding towns. Building on the recent success where the Age Care fashion show raises €2,400 for charity, team members hope this weekend market brings in another boost.

Locals can drop by outside the main shop between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, October 31st. Organisers invite neighbours to pop over, say hello, have a little mooch around, spend some euros, and support a brilliant local cause.

Sixty-five guests, a crisp glass of Cava on arrival and a catwalk of quality outfits turned Thursday afternoon into vital support for vulnerable English-speaking residents on the Costa del Sol.

Fashion show raises €2,400 for vulnerable residents on the Costa del Sol

Age Care’s highly successful fashion show, held on Thursday, October 15, raised an incredible €2,400 in profit for the charity’s work supporting vulnerable English-speaking residents on the Costa del Sol.

Generously sponsored by CK La Quinta, the event welcomed 65 ticket holders to an afternoon of fashion, live entertainment and delicious afternoon tea. Guests were greeted with a complimentary glass of Cava, followed by an decadent afternoon tea provided by Carlos, Andrea and Susana of the popular Autana Restaurant, whom Age Care warmly thanks for their generosity.

Charity fashion show with models and live entertainment

The show featured a fabulous selection of quality clothing from the Age Care shop, brought to life by a wonderful team of models. Special thanks go to Babs and Larysa, who worked tirelessly to organise the clothes and liaise with the models to ensure everything ran smoothly. Talented local singer Alexandra Avery provided the sound track for the afternoon.

Raffle prizes donated by generous businesses along the coast

A raffle offered a huge array of prizes with anything you would wish for, donated kindly by many generous businesses from up and down the coast. Age Care thanks every one of them, as well as Global Radio for advertising the event and spreading the word throughout the local community.

Guests also browsed the Age Care pop-up shop, which sold quality clothing, including the actual outfits worn by the models during the show. It proved to be another great success, giving guests the chance to find something special while supporting a worthwhile cause.

Age Care was delighted to welcome Victoria from CK La Quinta, Mario Bravo, Mijas councillor, and members of the Mijas Communication team, whose attendance was greatly appreciated.

Age Care volunteers: the team that made the magic happen

Behind the scenes, a huge amount of hard work made the day a success. Age Care sincerely thanks its dedicated volunteers, who organised the clothing, sold tickets, sourced raffle prizes, prepared and arranged the afternoon tea plates, and coordinated the entertainment. Their enthusiasm, commitment and generosity of time are invaluable to the charity.

Above all, thanks go to everyone who attended. Every ticket, raffle entry and clothing sale helps Age Care continue its important work, and the €2,400 raised is a fantastic contribution. The afternoon showed what can be achieved when local businesses, volunteers and the wider community come together for a good cause. Fashion, friendship and fundraising, such a winning combination.
